Live Istanbul 1978

Baris Manço had been in the Turkish music scene for 20 years at the time of this concert in late 1978. He had given his first concert in 1958 and recorded his first single in 1962, finally having a big hit in 1970 with his 18th Single “Daglar Daglar”.
After enjoying a couple of years at the top he was called to do his army service in early 1972 and apart from 3 pre-recorded singles he was away from the music scene for over 18 months.
With a dip in his career after the army service Baris Manço was at a crossroads at the time of this concert, apart from 1 single in early 76 he had not had a Turkish release since 1975’s “2023” LP.
This performance was just before his second big explosion with the “Yeni Bir Gun” LP the following year, the first side of this album is taken up with songs that would form side A of that album, While side B is a look back on his career with songs from the middle part of his career (70-76), a studio version on this potpourri of songs would find themselves on the Disko Manço Album released in 1980.

Turkish Pop Star No1, Baris Manço, released this album in 1983,a slightly funky prog-pop-folk affair and a grower as we’re used with Manço’s works. Lot of cool analog keyboards (including Minimoog, Prophet-5, Omni-2), superb rhythm section, tasty electric guitar and the incredible vocals of Baris.

Second proper studio album – originally released in 1976 – by the king of Turkish psych/Anatolian rock.

Recorded in Belgium with help from session musicians related to Placebo, Janko Nilovic and Mad Unity among others, Nick The Chopper features lyrics in English, huge orchestral sections, and re-arrangements of many of the melodies from his masterpiece 2023.

Baris spent his whole life trying to communicate to the wider world outside Turkey. This was his last attempt at doing so with an album before turning to a travel television show to visit faraway places and talk to the young and old, one on one. Every production trick of the glorious 1970s was deployed to push Baris up the European charts, and now they can push him right into your brain instead.

One of the leading Turkish rock musicians ever and one of the most influent, along with Erkin Koray, Edip Akbayram and Cem Karaca. This is his first longplayer, released in 1971 by Sayan Productions. It’s a compilation of tracks taken from previously released 45s, plus the track “Lory” that only appeared on this album. Killer psych rock with strong Turkish flavour, this features Baris’ all-time classics like “Derule” or “Daglar Daglar”, as well as the brutal wah-wah flooded “Küçük bir gece müzigi” with its infectious drumming that drives mad anyone searching for sampling stuff.

Not to be confused with two different releases with the same name that actually have different tracklist and artwork, this is the real album as it was originally released, reissued for the first time as a cool picture disc.
