Nacido en Caracas en 1943, era alto y muy delgado, lo que le vali\u00f3 el apodo de &#8216;Tabaco&#8217;. Limpiabotas y vendedor ambulante, a la edad de 18 se enamor\u00f3 de la noche caraque\u00f1a y pasaba sus d\u00edas scuchando los ensayos de un grupo musical al que termin\u00f3 ingresando, gracias a la intervenci\u00f3n de su amigo Elio Pacheco. Ese grupo se llamaba Sexteto Juventud .Tabaco pas\u00f3 por casi todos los puestos musicales dentro de la banda hasta convertirse en cantante y l\u00edder. Fue el parecido de su voz con Ismael Rivera y sus dotes de int\u00e9rprete lo que le vali\u00f3 un puesto permanente en la banda. Despu\u00e9s de dejar el grupo en 1973, cre\u00f3 su propio sexteto, Tabaco y Su Sexteto, y algo m\u00e1s tarde Tabaco y sus Metales, dos grupos que lograron reconocimiento internacional y se convirtieron en elementos b\u00e1sicos de la escena musical venezolana hasta mediados de los a\u00f1os 80. A pesar de su fama, Tabaco siempre tuvo claro que la m\u00fasica ten\u00eda un papel social que desempe\u00f1ar, y sol\u00eda cantar en las c\u00e1rceles venezolanas . Lamentablemente falleci\u00f3 joven, el 30 de mayo de 1995, a causa de una afecci\u00f3n pulmonar. Born in Caracas in 1943, he was tall and very skinny, which earned him the nickname 'Tabaco'. A shoeshine boy and street hawker, at the age of 18 he fell in love with the Caracas nightlife and spent his days listening to the rehearsals of a musical group that he ended up joining, thanks to the intervention of his friend Elio Pacheco. That group was called Sexteto Juventud. #nl# Tabaco passed through almost every musical position within the band until he became a singer. It was the resemblance of his voice to Ismael Rivera and his skills as an interpreter that earned him a permanent position in the band. #nl# After leaving the group in 1973, he created his own sextet, Tabaco y Su Sexteto, and later formed Tabaco y sus Metales, two groups that achieved international recognition, and became staples of the Venezuelan music scene 'til the mid-80s.
