A lovely, unusual piece of British, Pastoral, Progressive, Chamber Rock. Five elegant, melodic well-structured and always engaging songs with deeply trippy lyrics, spiced up by episodes of West Coast-inspired lead guitar and flute jamming. Clearly dating from the classic “turnover” year of 1970/1 this album would have fitted perfectly on “Pink Scroll” era Charisma Records. We hear echoes of very early Yes, Trespass-Era Genesis, Audience, Jethro Tull and Family but really it is its own self. Carefully restored from the only known Acetate by Reynolds Mastering.

Fun Palace

Deeply mysterious sound collage of drifting, trippy acoustic instrumentals, heart-breaking hippy songs, west-coast inflected folk-rock, stoned mutterings, Bonzo Dog-like parodies and experimental psychedelia. A satisfying and cohesive Underground, Acid Folk monument. A member and four copies briefly surfaced 5 years ago when a now defunct record dealer offered one on ebay. He confirmed around 20 copies were made, less than ten with sleeves, in 1969, in Bristol. Reference points include: Incredible String Band, John Martyn, Bonzo Dog Band, early Krautrock, Freud, Bert Jansch, Synanthesia, Orange Sunshine, Brown Rice.
Fully laminated sleeve, NO BARCODE, features inner with lyrics and replica original labels, designed by the immortal Bobby Blisters. Mastered by Reynolds Mastering, the kings of reconstruction and pressed on the old EMI Presses by Vinyl Factory for maximum quality.

Previously completely unknown second, unreleased, LP by pastoral English songsmith. Recorded in 1973 at the University of Surrey Music Department where Robert was a Guitar Degree Student. A kaleidoscope of beautifully sung, intense, impressionistic, self-composed songs. Some simply backed by his stunning guitar work, others with full chamber folk-rock backing. Heavily symbolic lyrics and deceptively sweet music, much of the imagery seems to anticipate his tragic early death, in his sleep, aged 19, just weeks before he graduated. Obvious comparisons can be made to Nick Drake and even Tim Buckley, but perhaps more sharply to early Al Stewart and with a strong resonance of Village Thing artists, especially Dave Evans two classic LPs. Timeless, sharp, wistful and eccentric. A miracle this has survived.

Unreleased 1970/73 material from brilliant Scottish prog-psych band. Their 1970 EMI LP Sister, Brother, Lover is, rightly, a major collectible, with its mix of elegantly played and endlessly melodic tracks. A perfect companion piece, Peaceful, collates top-quality unused material from two 1970 Apple acetates with tracks rescued from 1973 studio tapes. The result is a careful balance of driving but controlled progressive rock and spectral ballads enhanced by some truly majestic guitar work, great vocals and superb production. Morning maniac music: make some coffee, roll a joint, pull on your red loons and head into town.

Second of the four Alice Island Band projects, Original LP from early 1968, only 20 copies made back then. A beautiful, whimsical, delicate, charming, sometimes childlike, self-composed collection of songs; echoes of Donovan’s Songs for Little Ones, a whiff of mid period Kinks, vapour trails from the Incredible String Band and faint resonances of the more naïve end of early Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd. A genuine, utterly lost, hippy period piece stripped down and authentic, deceptively innocent with a constant Acidic undercurrent of the pervasive sadness marking the end of the “Summer of Love”. The Alice Island Band body of work is directly comparable in date, ethos, rarity, quality and overall vibe to Howell/Ferdinando: Agincourt/Ithaca. COMES WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK

A genuine Underground, West Coast inflected, progressive, psychedelic blues band from Sussex present a beautifully curated and recorded set kicking off with Quicksilvers Pride of Man and taking in Donovan (stunning version of Hampstead Heath Incident), Dylan and John Mayall as well as obscure blues and folk tracks (a wonderful Portland Town) and two great originals. Superb guitar throughout. Fans of early Quicksilver, 1st LP Savoy Brown, Mighty Baby and all that 69/70 hippy stuff need go no further. Originally a precious 99 copy only private release on the legendary Saturn label, only a handful have ever escaped into the wild.

Ote Sho’Digs

The sound of the pre-Afghan/Greatcoat UK underground exudes from every inch of The Ultra Smooth Swagger Band who merge Neil Young-esque west-coast jams, melodic progressive Help Yourself/Man-style twin-guitar smokers and propulsive Pink Fairies style rockers on this LP, originally recorded in 1972. Eight tracks carefully recovered from the original tape, opening with the sucker-punch of Turn Me on Dead Man, ending with the 11-minute guitar-fest: It Grows on You. Recommended to those who wear embroidered denim shirts and love the smell of a Nepalese Temple Ball.
