The Loafer Rides Again https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/the-loafer-rides-again/ Sun, 23 Mar 2025 23:00:00 +0000 https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/the-loafer-rides-again/ "Every gun makes its own tune", as Clint Eastwood quoted in The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (1966). The year is now 2024 and on this new album Nasser fires his Winchester 1866 "Yellow Boy" (Clint Eastwwoods gun) thirteen times and each tune is a direct hit. It's long been a tradition with Jamaican artists to write western cowboy themed songs and use wild west imagery. The Upstetters with 'For A Few Dollars More', 'Clint Eastwood', 'Big John Wayne', 'Return Of Django'. Prince Buster with his album 'The Outlaw' featuring 'Cincinnati Kid', Jackie Mittoo and Harry J's Allstars did 'Hang 'em High', Baba Brooks did 'Magnificent 7' and Laurel Aitken, who Nass worked with with The Loafers, had 'Jesse James', the list goes on... There are many reasons why the western theme was used so many times by Jamaican musicians, was it the tough rude boy image played by the hero? or the unforgettable melodies from these films? These two would be directly intertwined in the case of Cecil Campbell, aka Prince Buster, as he was head of security/ selector for Coxsone Dodd's sound system in Kingston. For Nass it was three movies 'A Fistful of Dollars', 'For A Few Dollars More' and 'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly' that inspired these recordings. All three films directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood, but the reason they stood out from all the other cowboys movies of the time, was the epic soundtrack by Ennio Morriconne. It was without doubt the reason they were elevated to the three best cowboy movies of all time. Nasser's 'Ennios Peyote Train' evokes the wild west gunslinger as the hero draws his gun and 'The Whip Of The Mariachi Kid' sees him ride into town for the final show down where there will be only one winner. 'Live Long And Prosper' and 'Vulcan Mind Meld' may at first seem to have nothing to do with cowboys or western themes but this is where these two elements meet, as Nass is a big fan of Mr Spock, from Star Trek, and was known as "Spock" by Mick, the landlord of Newbury infamous local pub, The Dolphin, where The Loafers grew up. In the Star Trek 1968 episode 'Spectre Of The Gun', the crew are beamed down to Tombstone, Arizona, to a planet in 1881 to play out "the gunfight at the ok corral" cowboys from the future! So put on your stetson hat, put your guns in the holster, mount your horse and light up a cigar cos it's time to take a fistful of dollars and ride to the sounds of 'The Loafer Rides Again', for a few dollars more you can be GOOD-BAD AND UGLY.

Bangarang/Wanted (7″) https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/bangarang-wanted-7/ Thu, 07 Jul 2022 22:00:00 +0000 http://guerssen.hl1097.dinaserver.com/product/bangarang-wanted-7/ After their successful album entitled 'Stomp You Down' and the band's stand by due to the pandemic, Mango Wood returns with a new studio single featuring two new songs in their own mood and style, playing Reggay focused to the dancefloors.
Due to the pandemic, the band saw their last album released when the lockdown was starting and had to cancel a European tour in which they would had been presenting the album.
This new Mango Wood 7" has been cooked with the same recipe as their last album, recorded by Javier Ortiz at Estudio Brazil, and mixed and produced by David Vidal Kasinski. The recording continues keeping the sound and the spirit from Jamaican classics alive, seeing the band's maturity earned through the last years after playin on many different stages all over the place.
Now they come back with this new single and tour dates, don't miss it if they're playing by your area!

The Sound Of Now https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/the-sound-of-now/ Sun, 23 Mar 2025 23:00:00 +0000 https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/the-sound-of-now/ Liquidator Music label presents pride of Madrid's Mango Wood brand new album, a 12 track LP released on vinyl disc and as digital download available at every platform. Mango Wood comes back with a wicked album after the success of their previous LP, 'Stomp You Down' (Liquidator Music, 2020). In this long player you can appreciate the evolution and the band's growth and maturity with their own and characteristic sound, they delve into more complex compositions but without moving away from the essence of Boss Reggae sound. We ' ve previously enjoyed the release of the video single "The Sound Of Now", song that names the album, and where the band presents its new line-up compared to the previous album that had a well-defined aesthetic. The album's production has been the same way they have always been doing with their previous recordings, recording live at Estudios Brazil and then mixing at Estudios Estrella and mastering at AD Mastering (London). In their lyrics, we can find a wide variety of themes, from the rebellious and shameless spirit of 'The Leap' to the Western influences of 'The Colt from Manjatan', passing through the romanticism of 'Long Time' and 'By Your Side'. The styles that appear on the album are varied within the Early Reggae genre, from the frenetic dance of 'The Sound Of Now' to the bluesy 'King Rat', passing through the mellow 'Hurts when I'm Gone'. Released on vinyl with a very limited edition in orange colored copies, released by Liquidator Music and purchasable at their own record store on Madrid's city center, featured on the album cover's photo.

Santiago Downbeat is a well respected orchestra that, since 2008, has been devoted to write their original own music, strongly influenced by Jamaican rhythms from the 60's. After having released two stunning studio albums, toured Argentina, Europe and Chile, our beloved ensemble have been kind of quiet, for nearly a decade. Until 2024 with the release of the single 'El Acuerdo', a powerful vocal Ska tune sung by the amazing Natalia Ramirez, the band lead singer. And around 6 months later they released a second single entitled 'Abajo El Mar', a tasty and soulful Rocksteady duet sung by Natalia and, the Spanish based songwriter, Sebastian Orellana, which transports us to the golden years enjoying these nice vocal harmonies. 'Salón De Baile' is the title of this brand new album formed by 10 songs recorded live in the studio, with which we can feel the energy and maturity that these 12 musicians have developed during the years, under the composition and direction of the band's trumpet player Cristian Cerpa. In his own words: "Salón De Baile is like an ode to a place for reunion and celebration, with it's own ritual, where the common people goes for jumping or just purge the weight of existence, through debauchery and excess but, also, for generating communion and connection. As the lyrics from the heavy reggae tune 'Después De La Lluvia' tells : "...And this way you will jump and float in the living room, you will let yourself be enveloped by this heat and, once again, you will leave your head in a corner, like the thief.

Chicken Blues https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/chicken-blues/ Sun, 16 Oct 2022 22:00:00 +0000 https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/chicken-blues/ Shots in the Dark were formed in Rome in 1999, offering original songs into foundational sounds: Ska, Rock Steady, Early Reggae, Soul and R&B.They shared stage with the likes of The Skatalites, Laurel Aitken, Derrick Morgan, Johnny Clarke, The Selecter, New York Ska Jazz Ensemble, The Trojans, Banda Bassotti, Bad Manners, The Aggrolites, etc. and accompanied live as backing band of artists such as Roy 'Mr. Symarip' Ellis, Gaz Mayall or Dr. Ring-Ding.
Shots In The Dark new album officially contains 9 original songs, but you can download the full album plus two bonus tracks including the reinterpretation of a tune taken from an Italian 70s erotic movie soundtrack.
The disc is the result of a long and intense work in the recording studio and, although faithful to the tradition of Foundation Ska, it brings out a new aspect of the band: the search for the origins of black music, where solo styles meet and embrace each other. apparently far away, where Ska, Blues, Soul and R&B are 'shaken, not stirred' with the grace with which a tropical drink is prepared and with the experience of those who have always loved this music.
