Deluxe hard-cardboard sleeve + OBI + resealable outer sleeve + 2 Page info sheet with Leo Acosta story in English and Spanish by Carlos Tropicaza

LEGENDARY MEXICAN PSYCH LATIN JAZZ FUNK
REISSUED FOR THE FIRST TIME

Leobardo Acosta Quintanar was born in Huetamo, Michoacán in 1925. He was a notable drummer, composer, arranger, and orchestrator.

In 1970, he recorded a last LP for Capitol with a small combo formed with some of his closest peers. The sound engineer for these sessions, Rogiero Silva, recalls that it happened in the night time. Leo was always very demanding in his studio hours with all of his musicians and that he did not tolerate mistakes or setbacks, but he was fully relaxed and enjoying this one very much.

For this last LP, entitled "ACOSTA" but known as "El Leon", all the compositions are originals, unlike his previous albums where the labels required him to record at least 6 songs that were hits on the popularity charts.

Tracklist:
A1. Rencorosa - A2. Noches de Viaje - A3. Todo Terminó - A4. La Novia Hippie - A5. Alma Latina
B1. Carga Pesada - B2. Mi Guitarra - B3. Rosa Rosita - B4. Melodía Del Amor Eterno - B5. El Campeón

Milo MacMahon and Raúl Indipwo, arrived to Portugal in 1959 and, over next three decades, they developed an international career in the music industry.

In addition to Portuguese and the various Angolan languages, the group recorded songs such as "Sylvie", "La Kwela" and "Le Palmier" in French, among others, and also covered Latin American, Spanish-speaking, Brazilian and even North American repertoires, where on their various tours they came into contact with the struggle for the Civil Rights of the black population.

In 1969 Duo Ouro Negro went on tour to the United States. Their experience there was decisive for what we would come to know three years later. "Don't forget your blackground", Raul Indipwo would exclaim in 1972, the voice of 'Blackground', the Angolan band's landmark album. Awakened to the activism of Black Power, attentive to the jazz that was being created on American soil, combined with an interest in the independence movements of the African colonies, what was then the most international of Portuguese bands recorded an album in Lisbon that was a vibrant cultural statement through music.

In 1981, "Blackground" was revised with new arrangements, including the instrumental "Dança do Robalinho".
Jazz-Funk at its best and now reissued for the first time in 7" format.
You can't miss this jazz-funk gem made in Angola.

Licensed by Ana Vitória Pereira

Tracklist:
Side A: 1. Dança do Robalinho, pt.1
Side B: 2. Dança do Robalinho, pt.2

Rare 1985 session from guitarist Eddie Fisher, the East St. Louis native whose best known for the jazz/funk albums "The Next One Hundred Years" and "The Third Cup". Fisher, who died in 2007, never really achieved major stardom, but has become a cult figure over the last years, thanks in large part to DJs and crate diggers who discovered his music and spread the word.

Perhaps the most obscure item in his catalog, "The Promise" was issued only on vinyl in 1985 on Fisher's own Nentu label and has been out of print for years . Boogie Jazz Funk at its best.

Series, vol. 1 – Madlib https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/series-vol-1-madlib/ Mon, 06 Jun 2022 22:00:00 +0000 https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/series-vol-1-madlib/ 180g Black vinyl
LP Deluxe edition
A stunning MADLIB tribute

The fact that Otis Jackson Jr. as Madlib uses exquisitely selected music by other musicians for his beats is widely known. That other musicians use Madlib's music would be noteworthy. But the fact that musicians use the music that Madlib has used is not only noteworthy but also something new. Just thinking about it makes your head spin.

This is precisely the concept behind "Series Vol. 1 - Madlib", the latest release on Mad About Records. The idea comes from the Portuguese drummer Frederico Ferreira, in short: FRED. Together with Eduardo Cardinho on vibraphone, Márcio Augusto on bass, Karlos Rotsen on piano, and Tomás Marques on saxophone, he takes what Madlib made from sampling Jazz music. He transfers the material into new Jazz music. It's so ambitious that Madlib himself didn't hesitate to give the project his blessing.

"I've always followed Madlib's work, and the fact he has such a vast repertoire allowed me and the band to choose the songs that made more sense to be played with this particular line-up," says Fred Ferreira. For example, the band chose "Keeper Of My Soul," which can be found on the 2001 album "Angles Without Edges" by Yesterday's New Quintet. On it, Madlib took a melody piece of the original by Walter Bishop Jr from 1973, looped it, and underlaid it with a forward-marching groove. FRED samples the groove and treats the original's melody more as an ornament that freely lays itself around the beat. In this way, they take their cue from Madlib's works of the last 20 years. The result is ten tunes of finest jazz.

Fred Ferreira himself looks back on a diverse repertoire of styles that the 40-year-old drummer from Lisbon has served throughout his life: kuduro with Buraka Som Sistema, hip-hop, and funk with Orelha Negra, punk and hardcore with Os Dias De Raiva. Fred also comes from a musical family. His father is Carlos Eduardo Ferreira, a drummer best known as Kalú.

The music will also be performed live, with José Garcia on bass and Diogo Santos on keys. "The live shows have been exciting, and our audience makes us want to do new things shortly." We can look forward to that.
