Chico Bernardes is a singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist from São Paulo, Brazil. In his first and self-titled record, ‘Chico Bernardes’ has arranged and recorded all the instruments, with the support of Gui Jesus Toledo from SELO RISCO and owner of Estúdio Canoa, where the recordings took place. Surrounded by lots of coffee and low lights, Chico recorded part of the songs as if he was singing for nobody, in real time. The other half of the record was filled with drums, bass, electric guitar, percussions and a bunch of keys, from old casio keyboards to an indian harmonium. The songs structured above nylon strings guitar were recorded with a 1968 Di Giorgio Romeo 3, frequently used on the classical brazilian records from the 70’s and beyond, that carries a very popular Bossa Nova tone, but Chico reworked it’s approach with the use of alternate tunings, on a closer proximity to artists such as Duncan Browne, Sibylle Baier and Joni Mitchell. For the steel strings, he used a 60’s Martin 000, in order to reach the old and warm wooden sound of the record. The Lyrics mostly talk about his wandering dreams about different affections with people, the transitional moments of a lifetime and self discoveries, from his essential core to the external world.

Daybreak

Mapache is proud to present the original Joe & Bing’s first album Daybreak.There aren’t many records as magical, as trascendent and as deserving of rediscovery as this one. This is the adventure of two young american songwriters who had the chance to get in the studio with brazillian composer, arranger and superstar Deodato. The album they recorded is full of magical moments like “Daybreak”, “Summer Sound” or “Sail”. The record was never officially released in the US but diferent records with diferent covers and diferent mixings have been issued in diferent countries like Brazil or Italy.

You hold in your hands the album just like should have been. Cover and sound. And we’re sure you’ll love it. Folded on a tip on jacket cover, the album comes with a gatefold insert, full of unseen pictures and with the two sides of the story written by Joe and Bing.

Back in 1975, singer songwriter Naomi Lewis entered in the studio to record her first album, Cottage songs. The result was a beautiful album inspired by family, friends, God, and nature. And also, an obscure secret known by many few. Lewis' songs are equal inspired by popular music like The Beatles and Joni Mitchell as psychedelic sounds and her lyrics spill out as small diary entries, written as a gift for one friend or another.

Blending touchstones of soft rock, pop and dreamy singer-songwriters with Lewis' cherubic voice, her albums have been praised as pinnacles of the privately-issued folk movement of the 1970s.

Ryan Pollie is an American musician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that now lives in Los Angeles, California. Pollie is primarily known for music under his own name and as Los Angeles Police Department. He is also a music producer that mostly self-produces his own albums.

Compared the music to ’70s songwriters like Jackson Browne and Graham Nash, STARS is his new album. First one with Mapache and a great collection of songs that connects him with the 70’s tradition while he writes his own path in this century. From the ambitious structures of The Shore House through the infectious pop of Don’t Lie, Stars is a pocket full of surprises.
