Guitar driven psychedelic hard-rock, heavy blues and proto-metal by this power-trio from Southampton.

This is their sought-after album from 1975.

Agnes Strange was a bluesy hard-rock trio active during the mid-1970s. The band consisted of John Westwood on guitar and vocals, Alan Green on bass and vocals, and Dave Rodwell on drums/vocals.

In 1975, they released their sole album, ‘Strange Flavour’, on the small BirdsNest label, linked to a chain of pubs / brewing firm. The album showcased their blend of hard-rock, blues and experimental / psychedelic influences, drawing comparisons to bands like Status Quo, Budgie, and Hawkwind. Despite their energetic style and musical talent, the album did not achieve significant commercial success. It’s clear that some other labels like Vertigo or Harvest would have been a better home for them.

**RIYL: Budgie, Taste, Hendrix, Status Quo, Sabbath, Stooges…**

*Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve

 *Sourced from the original masters

*Insert with liner notes by original producer/manager Dave Travis and rare photos / memorabilia

Side 1: 1. Give Yourself A Chance – 2. Strange Flavour – 3. Alberta – 4. Loved One – 5. Failure
Side 2: 1. Children of The Absurd – 2. Odd Man Out – 3. Highway Blues – 4. Granny Don’t Like Rock ‘n’ Roll – 5. Interference

Flash (CD) https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/flash-cd/ Sun, 25 Oct 2015 23:00:00 +0000 http://guerssen.hl1097.dinaserver.com/product/flash-cd/ Previously unreleased demo album from 1969, UK.

The loudest band from Hull in the 60s, Bare Sole played raw, in-your-face psychedelic hard rock and heavy blues.

Bare Sole's brief existence at the tail end of the 1960s reflected the realistic trappings of their geographical situation. Musical icons such as Mick Ronson and Robert Palmer would eventually rise to fame outside of their native Hull, but Bare Sole sadly only managed a handful of out-of-town gigs and a tour of US air bases in Germany. As it was, their entire existence fitted inside just over a year, but at least their inspired musical legacy has survived thanks to a 1969 recording session held at Fairview studios.

Assisted by writer and producer Keith Herd and galvanized by an enthusiastic local poultry farmer, Bare Sole captured their primitive garage mannerisms inside of one fiery recording session. Aside from Decca's rejection of their demo tape, Bare Sole continued playing alongside acts such as Family, Status Quo, The Move and the Small Faces, but the inevitable decision to quit came in 1970 and their story came to an end.

Presenting Bare Sole's entire recorded history taken from the master tapes of their 1969 recording session.

Their seductive garage romp boasts explosive doses of fuzz, wah-wah and Farfisa organ, a sound that recalled an earlier and more primitive sound, but a sound that also may have unwittingly sealed their fate.

Master tape sound.

Detailed liner notes.

Recommended to fans of: Blue Cheer, Iron Claw, Stack Waddy

Tracklist:

Let's Communicate - Flash - Woman-A- Come - Ain't Nobody Here - Jungle Beat - Sole Blues - Woman-A-Come (Version 2)

Till Den Sträng Som Brast…(CD) https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/till-den-strang-som-brast-cd/ Sun, 18 Feb 2018 23:00:00 +0000 http://guerssen.hl1097.dinaserver.com/product/till-den-strang-som-brast-cd/ First ever reissue of this rare Swedish psychedelic hard-rock & progressive album from 1975. Powerful guitar / organ and great melodic vocals.

The Bättre Lyss project was born during 1973-74, when mutual friends Rolf Hammarlund (vocals, bass) and Christer Palmquist (vocals, acoustic guitars, piano) started to write songs sung in English. Their friend Carl Henrik Gårdstedt was studying in the Film and Radio School (Dramatiska Institutet) and had access to a studio in the school. He began to record their songs, joined by old friends drummer Rolf Johansson and guitarist Bo Klackenberg. Soon after, the lyrics were changed to Swedish and Rolf Johansson contributed with more songs. They wrote lyrics about things that happened in Sweden and around the world. Tragic things like the military junta murdering people in Chile, the Vietnam War, the weapon industry and smaller subjects, like people living in the bottom of the society.

That's when they decided to record an album. Helped by some talented friends, including THREE electric guitar players (among them Anders Nordh of LIFE fame) and a flute / sax player plus an organist, they registered "Till Den Sträng..." on a 2-track machine in "Statliga Dramatiska Institutet's studio". The result was stunning and was released as a private pressing in 1975. For this new reissue, the band members have decided that all the royalties will go to charity (Cancerfonden).*Master tape sound, booklet with liner notes and photos.

File next to: NOVEMBER, LIFE, SAGA, BAZAR...

Tracklist: 1. Göta Lejon - 2. Emma - 3. Vidsel-Sthlm, Enkel - 4. Anna - 5. Sagan Om Viggen - 6. Drömflickan - 7. Vapnet - 8. Tredje Riket - 9. Ansvaret - 10. Chaú Gaí - 11. K-E Andersson

Bazar was one of the most hard-working progressive bands from Scandinavia. This is their killer second album from 1974. Wah-wah fuelled guitar action, organ, flute, melodic vocals and radical lyrics. "Drabantbyrock" combines heavy numbers, West Coast guitar jams and dreamy moments, featuring the superb guitar playing of Bent Patey.

Highly recommended for those into Swedish hard-rock bands such as November.

The Studio Sessions 1971-72 (CD) https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/product/the-studio-sessions-1971-72-cd/ Mon, 10 Mar 2025 23:00:00 +0000 https://wpguerssen-test.odoo.rgbconsulting.com/?post_type=product&p=282723 Castle Farm was a British band from the early 70s with a powerful, guitar based hard-rock-blues sound with elements of glam and proto-metal.

Here's their rare and sought after privately pressed 45 from 1972, 'Hot-Rod Queen' b/w 'Mascot' (originally released on their own label, Farm Records) plus 1971-72 unissued studio recordings.

Originally a four-piece band, they later brought in John Aldrich, with his super-clean lead guitar style, to supplement Gram 'Tex' Benike's killer slide work and create a dynamic dual-guitar sound, adding so much more colour and depth to the band's music. With a solid rhythm section of 'Spyder' Curphey (and latterly his brother Roger) on bass and Steve Traveller on drums, and with Denny Newman's powerful and resonant vocals, the band progressed to the university and college circuit all over England, supporting major acts like Rory Gallagher, Deep Purple, Atomic Rooster, Savoy Brown, Climax Blues Band, Quintessence and many others.
