Released in 1980 as the follow up to their debut album, Three Imaginary Boys, and featuring a new line-up that included Simon Gallup and Mathieu Hartley, this is the album that gave the band their first hit (“A Forest”), and also began to solidify the brooding atmospheric sound that would soon make these grandfathers of goth international pop icons.

This Is The Modern World

Vinyl Lovers present a reissue of The Jam’s second album This Is The Modern World, originally released in 1977 just after their debut record. Despite generally bad reviews from critics at the time, the album does have its shining moments (“Life From A Window” and “The Modern World”, for example). But it is also interesting as a piece of history for its lyrical content, which, as the album’s title promised, is a snapshot of a day in the life of the declining British Empire during the late 1970s. Includes eight bonus tracks from the BBC sessions.

Love will tear us apart

LP version on CLEAR vinyl in PVC sleeve with double-sided printed clear plastic insert. CD version is the mini replica of the vinyl version, in slim plastic case with clear insert.

“Love Will Tear Us Apart” should have been the band’s most shining moment…instead it became their tragic swan song. Released just a month after frontman Ian Curtis’ heart wrenching suicide, the song came to be seen as the unheeded warning of the impending tragedy.

This special edition LP features all three versions of the song that transformed Joy Division from mere band into legend. In addition to the original single version, we have two versions remixed by American producers Don Gehman of John Mellencamp fame (the “radio version”) and Arthur Baker (who also produced a hit single for Africa Bambaataa around this same time).

The remaining tracks include “These Days” (which appeared on the original “Love Will Tear Us Apart” single), along with “Transmission” (their debut single released in 1979) and “Atmosphere” (originally released as a France-only single) in 1980.

A hard road (2LP)

More than a compilation, this album is a complete document of the Bluesbreakers’ recordings with Peter Green, of which “A Hard Road” was just the most prominent part. Bonus tracks include several non-LP singles (among them the 1967 B-side “Rubber Duck,” which has never before appeared on LP).

Mutantes (Bottle green)

One album into their career in 1969, Mutantes showed few signs of musical burnout after turning in one of the oddest LPs released in the ’60s. Similar to its predecessor, Mutantes relies on an atmosphere of experimentation and continual musical collisions, walking a fine line between innovation and pointless genre exercises. The lead track (“Dom Quixote”) has the same focus on stylistic cut-and-paste as their debut LP’s first track (“Panis et Circenses”). Among the band’s musical contemporaries, Mutantes sounds similar only to songs like the Who’s miniature suite “A Quick One While He’s Away” — though done in three minutes instead of nine, and much more confusing given the language barrier. The album highlights (“Nao Va Se Perder por Ai”) and (“Dois Mil e Um”) come with what sounds like a typically twisted take on roots music (both Brazilian and American), complete with banjo, accordion, and twangy vocals. Though there are several other enjoyable tracks, including “Magica” and a slap-happy stomp called “Rita Lee,” there’s a palpable sense that the experimentation here isn’t serving much more than its own ends. If the first album’s relentless eclecticism did in fact occasionally result in dry passages, it’s especially true here.

A Divina Comedia Ou Ando Meio… (White)

Originally released in 1970 this was the third album from Os Mutantes, the geniuses of wacked out Brazilian psychedelic rock. They may have been trying to pay homage to their better known icons back in the States, but in doing so they created something that went beyond all that until, 30 years later, they became the ones that everyone was trying to imitate. This album, further testimony to their limitless creativity and considered by many to be their best, was recorded during the height of the Brazilian military regimes crack down on artists, and fellow members of the Tropicalia movement, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil had already been sent into exile in the UK.

Mr Fantasy

Riding fairly high on the success of their singles, the band, whose members included Jim Capaldi, Steve Winwood, Chris Wood, and Dave Mason, released its 1967 debut LP, which also soon shot up to the number 16 slot on the UK albums chart. Aided by their use of unusual intruments (Winwood played the organ, Wood played flute and Mason the sitar) they created a hybrid of pop / blues rock with a sound that was somewhat unique for the time and which soon made them international superstars. This deluxe reissue includes 5 bonus tracks & a POSTER!
