In 1969, producer and boogaloo godfather Bobby Marin conceived this undeservedly obscure funky, psychedelic Latin soul gem. Released on Ralph Lew’s short-lived Dorado label and engineered by Jon Fausty, Bobby was backed by a top-notch studio band that included Ricardo Marrero, Joey Pastrana, Bernard Purdie, Louie Ramirez, Orlando Marin and Ozzie Torrens. Includes liner notes by genre expert Pablo Yglesias telling the story behind the music. 180g vinyl.

Egyptian Reggae (Split)

Jonathan Richman’s classic ‘Egyptian Reggae’ has been responsible for setting thousands of discerning dance floors on fire. After getting the obvious Jah twist on a few occasions, so we thought it was about time for the Richman’s song to receive a fun yet respectful cumbia treatment! This cumbia candy has been recorded in Lima by no other than Pancho Acosta, founder and guitarist of Compay Quinto, and one of the greatest cumbia guitar players in Peru. On the flip side we find one of Acosta’s own original songs, ‘Carnaval de Jujuy’, recorded by Austin-based future-cumbia group Money Chicha.

First time 7″ reissue of this mega-rare Bobby Marin produced Latin funk gem. ‘Together People (Pamoja Watu)’ sounds like a cross between James Brown’s ‘It’s A New Day’ and Manu Dibango’s ‘Soul Makossa’, while ‘It’s Your Thing’ is a heavy Latin funk instrumental version of the Isley Brothers classic, featuring screaming Hammond organ. Both are DJ favorites and the original 45 fetches large sums, if you can find a copy.

A tiny guy with a great big, easy, open voice, Akbayram glues together disparate arrangements that put ridiculous analog synthesizers up next to mystic poetry that's hundreds of years old. Anatolian melodies are enveloped by western touches, like breakdowns for cosmic whispering, slammin' organ, or wild phasing effects on folk instruments that were never meant to support them.

Turkey’s recent musical history is littered with bottled blondes who put on a lot of eyeliner, made a few singles & then disappeared. And since the mid-1970s, those twin queens Ajda Pekkan and Sezen Aksu have maintained a semi-rivalry while bulldozing their way over pop charts & sales counters. Piles of Turkish psych & folk reissues have hit the west over the past few years, and yet how many have given the luscious ladies of Anatolia their due? So go beyond Selda, and get your gal power on. It’s time to steam up your windows with this foxy arabesque singer who’s a real-life Stevie Nicks next-door.

Waka waka funk rhythm guitar, sweet little organs, pumping bass, winging & buzzy synths, electric baglama, syrupy disco strings, and Akkor’s little swallowed yodels… It’s all here on Istanbul Plak singles released from 1971-75.

Whether she’s covering European hits that have Turkish lyrics retrofitted, or ghost voicing a musical scene in a high-profile movie, Akkor often sings like outbursts of tears or frenzy are just beyond her words. And seeing how she always played second fiddle to her classier, more famous sister Gönül, maybe Kâmuran just felt like a little drama was in order, mmm?

Laxmichand ‘Babla’ Shah began his career and a drummer and percussionist on Bollywood soundtracks composed by his older brothers Kalyanji V. Shah and Anandji V. Shah, and then made history through Babla’s Disco Sensation, the adventurous disco and synth-pop recasting of popular film hits released by Polydor in the late 1970s. This rare beast kicked off the ‘Disco Dandia’ craze and is a total killer from start to finish, the sitar funk grooves and eastern melodies clashing with all kinds of Moog madness. Tresor National is a new Montreal-based record label dedicated to reissuing long lost gems recorded in Quebec (Canada). Their inaugurational release will be o 180g vinyl-only official reissue of the 1970 cult classic “maple syrup porn” soundtrack “Viens, mon amour’ (Love in a 4 letter World), composed by Paul Baillargeon (Star Trek TV series, Jean- Pierre Ferland’s Soleil, Curious Georges) and Dean Morgan.

Between 1968 and 1974, Quebec was exposed to unabashed exploitation cinema. Erotic and taboo, these B-movies took on the name of films de fesses (titty films) or “maple syrup porn”. The genre produced some of the most delectable and collectable soundtracks at the time while “Viens, mon amour” easily stands out as one of the sexiest example ever recorded in La Belle Province! Original pressings are scarce and have been highly sought-after for decades by collectors from around the world. This remastered reissue highlights every sensual, psychedelic and funky side, where rare grooves mix with delicate pop songs and Moog- infused, fuzz-driven titles with hard-hitting brass. A true gem for cinephiles, DJs and all diggers of exotic sounds… with a distinctive Québécois feel.

This first-ever reissue also includes extensive liner notes, rare artwork and exclusive commentaries from the composers. Pressed at 1000 copies, the album will be released in June 2019.
