The sound is very influenced by Turkish psychedelic folk and has a cool Funky feel at times with Disco Folk Rock driven rhythms, wah and Eastern flavoured electric-saz riffs.. really great samples that got everything a DJ needs.
Both sides are absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. Enjoy it!

Heavy Blues, check… Fuzz, check… Psychedelic, check! At 14 years of existence Italy’s Black Elephant return with a monster of an album entitled The Fall of the Gods. We are talking album of the year material! It is that good.
In 2018 the band unleashed Cosmic Blues, a true underground classic. In 2020 the band delivered the Japanese themed Seven Swords. The DNA shared between these two albums are very simple: both are collections of classic-minded heavy groovers, picking the best the ’70s, ’90s and ’10s had to offer in face melting riffery.
The Fall of the Gods continues in the tradition of their two previous sonic gems, and really takes things to a heavier place, both figuratively, and literally. Band leader Alessio Caravelli gave us this insight: “The theme this time around is the fall, from the decay to the reborn… After the last very tough years for all societies, we understood that many principles and colossus have fallen, exactly like gods and ancient cultures such as Maya and Aztec did. This has been also the inspiration for our graphic designer Farfante, who hand drew the cover and art for the new album with these concepts in mind.”
A wide range of dynamics are present (All Them Witches come to mind). Hints of Hendrix meld with moments of 90’s Shoegaze (think the Verve’s A Storm in Heaven album), and then head down a long desert highway that would make Brant Bjork feel at home.
Fuzz pedals preach on, the sky cracks, and the riffs crush. The world’s ending anyway. You might as well have some fun with it.

‘A Chicken to Hug’. An intriguing, personal album: clearly Caedmon from the first note, but come of age. A 2010 album of twelve recently penned songs from Caedmon’s original line up: Angela Webb (Naylor), Jim Bisset, Ken Patterson, Sam Wilson and Simon Jaquet.

The much loved fragile female vocals, searing electric guitar licks, ‘cello, mandolin and bass remain from the ’70s sound; now supplemented with accordion, drum kit, trombone, and whistle.

32 years on from their eponymous album ‘Caedmon’ the content of the songs is personal, poignant and sometimes challenging.

Acoustic acid folk, mixed, in well-judged doses, with jazz, soul, African and gospel groove’.

A limited digipak special initial release (1000 copies).

Sonido Amazónico!

Chicha Libre’s debut album, Sonido Amazonico is finally available on vinyl in Europe. The double album contains all original tracks first published as a CD back in 2008. The vinyl edition is comprised of 3 sides of music, and a fourth side with an etching of iconic Venezuelan saint Jose Gregorio.
Chicha, Peruvian psychedelic cumbia, was first popularized outside of Peru by a compilation released by Chicha Libre’s own Olivier Conan and entitled “The Roots of Chicha.” The music proved popular around the world, being championed by people such as Elijah Wood, Matt Groening, Alex Kapranos and director Almodovar.
The Brooklyn band Chicha Libre started out as a tribute to Peruvian pioneers but quickly evolved into an original project which MTV has called “one of the world’s preeminent Tropical Psychedelic band”. Indeed, while they remain true to their Chicha roots, Chicha Libre’s quickly took a more psychedelic turn drawing from its members’ alternative background.
Made up of Mexican, Venezuelan, French and American the band used surf guitar, organ sounds and Latin percussion to play a mixture of borrowed and homegrown sounds – but its music remains a freeform reinvention, not an exercise in nostalgic duplication.
The re-release coincides with the release of a new EP “Tequila y Aguardiente”, in collaboration with Son Rompe Pera and La Sonora Mazuren.

Canibalismo

While Chicha Libre’s second album, Canibalismo was inspired by the Peruvian Chicha explosion of the 70’s, it also looked back to the cultural Cannibalism dear to Os Mutantes and other Brazilian tropicalists, as well as the production values of late 1960’s rock bands.
The group still pays homage to amazonian legends Los Wembler’s de Iquitos, Los Mirlos and Manzanita, but mixes it up even more by combining mellotron and vintage synths with West African guitars, treated percussion, fuzztone and some R.D Burman-inspired arrangements. Originally released in 2012, this the first european re-release on vinyl.

Tequila Y Aguardiente

Chicha Libre’ first release in 10 years is an EP recorded in Mexico City and Bogotá with special guests Mexican sensation Son Rompe Pera and Colombian retro-futurist tropical band La Sonora Mazuren. The EP include covers of the classic Tequila! and Caminito de mi Tierra, first recorded by Ecuadorian cult composer Polibio Mayorga The B side consists of remixes of both those tunes in Rebajada and Rustico mode. The title of the release refers to Mexico’s Colombia’s national drinks. Both songs were remixed by Olivier Conan with Bryce Goggin.

“Day Of Light”, the first album by Chicago musician Constantine, released as a private edition in 2015, took the underground psych-folk scene by storm and it’s now a cult album between psychedelic aficionados. So we at Guerssen are pleased to announce the release of Constantine’s second effort: “In Memory Of A Summer Day” is another psychedelic folk-rock gem filled with pastoral tales of adventure, beauty and sorrow.
Housed in a whimsical storybook-illustrated gatefold sleeve (artwork by Stephen Titra of O.W.L), and includes twelve lyric insert pages.

Infinite Peaks
