“A masterpiece of soul singing, song writing, and production.” –¿FUNK MY SOUL
“Though considered the finest deep soul record of all time by no less than soul expert Dave Godin, “I’m a Loser” was rejected by dozens of labels before it finally surfaced on Wally Roker’s Canyon label. Although the first single, ‘To the Other Woman,’ cracked Billboard’s R&B Top Ten, Canyon soon spiraled into financial disaster, destroying the album’s commercial momentum..”¿ –ALL MUSIC
“Doris had this great sad quality in delivering a song that could only be compared with Billie Holiday. You believe she has lived through every story on the album.” ¿ — SWAMP DOGG
REPRESSING ON BLACK VINYL. DORIS DUKE I’m A Loser -2013 MASTERING! Liner notes by Swamp Dogg himself printed on back . (Note, the “sticker” that appears in the image is just an image for the ad, not a real sticker)
Can’t add a lot to the previous comments — but adding our voice to confirm everything said above. This is true capital “S” Soul music. Doris Duke doesn’t have an overwhelming voice, but her conviction is unparalleled. You feel every word she sings. The Swamp Dogg production has a lot of nice touches and embellishments that help make this a great soul album, a gem. If you love classic Memphis soul of the 60s-70s (Bettye Swann, Candi Staton, Ann Peeples, Syl Johnson, Al Green), you’ll love this record.
